I Did a Thing !
I Did a Thing
A few weeks ago, I stood in front of a room full of strangers at a wellness event and gave a talk about the power of choosing the seeds to plant in your mind garden.
The idea is simple, though living it rarely feels that way. Your mind is a garden, and every thought you engage with is a seed. Some you plant on purpose. Most, you don’t.
And here’s the thing about a garden, it doesn’t know if a seed is serving you or not. If you give it attention, it grows.
I want to tell you about the two seeds that showed up loudest in the weeks before that talk, and what I learned about choosing between them.
The Seed I Almost Fed
For days before the event, fear was the only seed I could see.
Every rehearsal turned into "What if I forget what I’m saying", "What if that old whisper is right, the one that’s been telling me for years that my voice doesn’t matter ?"
The Other Seed
Somewhere in the middle of all that rehearsing, I remembered something else.
Fear isn’t the only seed in there. There’s a seed of courage too, quieter and easier to miss.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s feeling the fear and moving forward anyway.
So that’s where I put my focus instead: on actually doing it, on becoming the person who finally says it out loud.
Hands Shaking and All
And I did it.
Hands shaking. Voice catching once or twice. Heart going the whole time.
Courage grows the way everything else in a garden grows. You nurture the seed you choose to feed, and eventually it becomes the one that’s strongest. The fear doesn’t disappear. You just stop giving it all your water.
Why I Make Jewelry the Way I Do
This is the whole idea behind the pieces I design.
A ring, a necklace, something you put on every single day, it’s a cue. A small, physical reminder of the seed you’re choosing to grow, even on the days you forget you’re choosing anything at all.
That’s what I want every piece I make to do: point you back to yourself, on the days you need it and the days you forget you do.
So here’s my question for you, the same one I keep asking myself.
What’s growing in your mind garden right now? On purpose, or without you even noticing?
Right now, mine is resilience. I’m wearing the lace coral fire ring, set with a natural grey diamond, as my reminder. Part of the shape shift collection of shells and pieces i found along beaches here and away.
Just like these ocean worn treasures, we are morphed and changed by life's experiences, Coral like that is shaped by everything we survive, and still here. Resilient and with strength of spirit.
